筑波嶺の みねより落つる みなの川 恋ぞつもりて 淵となりぬる
(つくばねの みねよりおつる みなのがは こひぞつもりて ふちとなりぬる)
現代訳
筑波山の峯から流れてくるみなの川も、(最初は小さなせせらぎほどだが)やがては深い淵をつくるように､私の恋もしだいに積もり､今では淵のように深いものとなってしまった｡
