Hi, I'm a foreigner and recently started browsing some Japanese forums out of curiosity.
One thing that really confuses me is how people use the kanji "草" (which means grass?) to represent laughter.
I saw a bunch of replies that just said "草" or even "wwwww" and someone told me that "草" somehow comes from that?
Can someone explain how this started and why grass is funny?
I'm genuinely curious.
Thanks in advance!
fuck you
Also, I’ve noticed a lot of people using the 🥺 emoji...
Why is that so common?
It looks like something a pathetic little anime girl would use.
Is it meant to be cute or ironic or... both?
I don’t get it, but I keep seeing it everywhere.

Your english is pretty good.
I'm not mad or anything — I genuinely just want to understand.
If anyone has a real explanation, I’d actually appreciate it.
If not, that’s fine too.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Guess I’ll just keep being confused while y’all bark.
How do you know this platform?
