The U.S. is considering temporarily allowing about 140 million barrels of Iranian oil already at sea to be sold instead of blocked,
aiming to inject more supply into the market and bring down global oil prices at a time when war risks are pushing them higher.
By letting this oil flow, prices drop, which means Iran earns less per barrel (or maybe not even paid) and takes a financial hit even as its own oil enters the market.
The volume would cover roughly 10 to 14 days of global supply, providing short term price relief while broader military and economic pressure continues.
The strategy is to use Iran’s own oil to drive prices down, weaken its revenue, and stabilize the market at the same time.
